MALASPINA EXPEDITION AT MONTEREY, 13–25 Sept 1791: the corvette Descubierta (Alejandro Malaspina) — Spain's grand scientific circumnavigation, its answer to Cook and La Pérouse — did astronomy, botany and Ohlone ethnography with Fr. Lasuén, then ran a coastal survey from ~60°N down to Cabo San Lucas. Naturalist Tadeo Haenke and artist Tomás Suría were present; Née and Guío remained behind in Mexico.
